 1881 Hand-Painted Antique Map of Michigan

This beautiful hand-colored map was created by Joseph Hutchins Colton, a prominent publisher of atlases in the United States. During the years of the early 1830's to 1890, the Colton family atlases were the finest produced during the 19th century. By the late 1850's, the Colton's were also publishing guidebooks, and immigrant & railroad maps.
In the 1860's, the firm was renamed G. W. & C. B. Colton, when Colton was succeeded by his sons, George Woolworth and Charles B. Colton. The Colton family of cartographers continued to publish maps and atlases until 1892.

Due to the INCREDIBLY high shipping prices charged for OVERSIZE shipping, shipping charges may be higher than quoted for items that measure more than a total of 70" (matted height + width). Since each is unique they may vary slightly from the item shown (when we have more than one if a particular item, the colors may be different than those shown).
